Designed for Busy Professionals
Our non-credit courses are available on an on-demand basis and can be completed on your own time. The for-credit courses follow the traditional semester schedule and engage students with an in depth level of understanding through weekly assignments.
On-Demand and Short Courses
Our online learning activities cover a variety of food safety topics. They are self-paced, meaning that after you enroll and access them, you are on your own to complete them. Once you enroll in a course, you have 365 days to complete it. All courses contain multimedia elements such as images, text and simple animations. Some feature audio,video clips, virtual tours, case studies, scenario-based learning activities and quizzes. Graded quizzes and exams may be required if certification is involved.
Anyone can take our on-demand, short courses. You do not have to be enrolled at NC State or registered through the university’s registrar’s office for on-demand, short courses. People in the following roles find these courses to be valuable:
1. Food and beverage operators
2. Quality assurance workers & supervisors
3. Food safety personnel
4. Owners of small food processing facilities
5. Plant/Production managers
6. Food safety regulators, auditors, and inspectors

Academic Courses for College Credit
Our courses for college credit are online and available to anyone who registers through the university’s registrar’s office. You do not have to be admitted as a full-time student to take them, however, they do apply towards the Undergraduate Certificate in Food Safety and Quality Management. If you’re a currently enrolled NC State student, you can take these courses on an as-needed basis in the spring, summer, and fall semesters.
